Dig Boxes
Dig Box 1:
This can get a little messy… mix in some of their favorite treats for added fun. Dirt can, and will, be flung around. For another fun game afterwards, put some peas in the bathtub with a little water, and let them clean off while fishing!
Take a decent sized sterilite container, size depending on the number of rats you have.
Fill it halfway with sterilized garden soil, without fertilizers or chemicals.
Mix in a handful of bird seeds and water.
Wait a few days for the seeds to sprout.
Stop watering 2-3 days before letting rats play in it, so they don’t get all muddy.
Place the box in a clean area (bath tub or in the middle of a room on a sheet) or take outside.
Dig Box 2:
This is a great alternative if you don’t want dirt covered rats, or if you have young rats. Hide some of their favorite treats in it and add the rats.
Take a decent sized sterilite container, size depending on the number of rats you have.
Fill the container with shredded paper towels, paper, and/or sheets of fabric.
