Policies

  • Our rats are not to be sold as feeders and are not to be bred for the purpose of feeders. They are not to be taken to a shelter, rescue, or to be culled.
  • If the adopter cannot or no longer wishes to keep the rat(s), they will immediately contact the breeder and arrange to have the rat returned. I am always happy to take rats back into my home, and will do my best to find a permanent loving home for them.
  • Our rats are only sold in same-sex pairs, unless the adopter already has 1-2 rats waiting at home.
  • The rat(s) MUST have adequate living space, a healthy and nutritionally complete diet, and access to fresh water at all times.
  • The rat(s) must never be exposed to extreme temperatures, rain, cigarette smoke, pine/cedar bedding, sharp rusted objects, toxins, pesticides, or any other aerosol or substance that could put the rats health at risk.
  • The rat(s) will always have proper medical attention if the need arises.
  • We offer a 14-day health guarantee. If the rats were to become ill, they can be returned with the choice of a full refund or a top spot on the waiting list for my future litters. Note: This only applies if the adopter quarantines the rat for at least 14 days.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older to adopt. Teenagers and children take excellent care of rats, but a parent or guardian must take sole responsibility for the rat(s).

Adopting

  • Adopter must be 18 years of age or older.
  • The rats are adopted on a first come, first serve basis. I cannot guarantee that everyone on the waiting list will get a rat from a certain litter, and I cannot guarantee the colors, genders, or markings of the babies in the litter.
  • Rats will only be adopted out in same sex pairs, unless adopted already has a rat of the same gender or a rat that has been spayed/neutered.
  • The adopter agrees to stay in-contact with the breeder and inform them of any health or temperament concerns/issues of the rat(s). Such issues can include, but are not limited to, biting, barbering (rat tearing out its fur), tumors, stroke, seizures, diabetes, and megacolon.

Pick Up

  • The rats will become available to pick up at the ages of 5 weeks. I will inform the people reserving the rats a week ahead of time.
  • I do not ship rats of any age. Arrangements can be made to pick up your rat at an agreed upon location, or at the FuzzButt Rattery itself. When picking up the adopted rat, an appropriate carrier must be used. I do not provide carriers. If adopter fails to bring a carrier, I will keep the rat until the adopter provides one.
  • The adopter has 7 days after the weaning age (5 weeks) to pick up the rat. I will hold the baby/babies longer for an additional fee.
  • If you decide you cannot or do not want the rat(s), you must inform me immediately. Please do not wait until the week you are supposed to pick up the rat(s).

Prices

I breed for health and temperament over beauty, therefore I do not price according to colors, markings, or types.

  • Baby rats - $20
  • Adult rats - $15
  • Rescues - $15

Note: I do discount $5 for every additional rat adopted.
Ex: Two babies = $35, Two adults/rescues = $25.
